TE ARA
Welcome
We are a school for secondary aged students that aims to support them to overcome their learning and/or behavioural barriers and facilitate their return to mainstream schooling; providing them with life skills and tools to help them into further education and potential career paths.

Same education. Different path.

Who we are
Who
we are
Te Ara is an educational centre with 5 staff (only 2 of whom are funded by the Ministry of Education) and approximately 20 students, focused on meeting the individual needs of secondary aged students.
Mainstream schooling tends not to suit every student's needs or cater for certain social or behavioural barriers.
Te Ara aims to provide a more focused and supportive learning environment and equip students with the confidence and skills to move forward on their path of learning.

'Our teachers show us all these different career paths.
They are trying to find something for all of us, that we
actually want to do. Something worth turning up for.'

What we do
What
we do
We help students recognise and foster individual strengths in order to set goals that adhere to their individualised learning plans. All of this is completed in accordance with the NCEA curriculum provided by Te Kura (The Correspondence School).
We've been around for over 25 years and know what we are doing. We've well established roots in the Wellington community, but we also rely on our generous sponsors to partially fund our school.

your support
Although we receive a small grant from the Ministry of Education, we rely on and annually seek substantial funding from our sponsors for integral parts of the supportive and educational environment that we provide. For example: one integral part is our youth workers' wages.
